3:17PM - TftH XVII
They just convicted the gang member that shot a football player from Hayward High.
This guy is also going to be tried as part of a gang of six that killed the kid in front of the junior high school I wrote about several years ago.
I haven't heard many gunshots in my neighborhood this year, but there was a police cruiser, a marked police SUV, and a plain black SUV whose driver was wearing a tactical vest and helmet parked outside my apartment complex when I got home last night.
I know the gang task force cracked down on my neighborhood after the junior high school incident. I'm curious to see who else is being tried for that shooting.

2:30PM - Chinatown Ghost Tour
I went with a couple of friends of mine over to San Francisco Saturday to go on this tour. I'm a skeptic when it comes to ghosts, but the tour was very informative, and made me appreciate Chinatown even more than I already have.

I was teasing my friend Jesse about researching the Illuminati, but the more I learn about the Stratfor email hacks, and the fallout from such...
I think Barrett just fell down the wrong rabbit hole, and that's why he's in federal custody right now.

12:26PM - The History of Anonymous
"Ten thousand angry kids, whoever they are, they scared the shit out of some people those days. They scared the shit out of the powers that be. And that’s why this is being investigated. That’s why I’m under indictment. That’s it. Because between the days of December sixth and December tenth ten thousand angry people proved to the government that their regulations, their ideas, their view of PayPal, their view of WikiLeaks, their view of the Afghan war, and Egypt, and Tunisia, and Libya, it didn’t fucking matter. Their opinion no longer mattered because someone was out on the internet kicking ass."

12:02PM - Universal Brotherhood
The Universal Brotherhood is a fictitious organization from the role-playing game Shadowrun. I started playing Shadowrun in the late 80's and into the early 90's with a group of friends.
From the description of the adventure...
"Who are the Brotherhood? Possibly the largest humanitarian organization in the world? To the grime-encrusted inhabitants of the sprawl they are a shining ray of hope in an otherwise hopeless world. This is their way out of the darkness, their key to personal fulfillment and understanding. They are on every corner. They knock on every door. And they want to save you too. Now someone has been on the inside of the Brotherhood. The objectives and purpose of the Brotherhood have been exposed. Some of the questions are answered. But the truth is even more chilling..."
Once our characters started investigating the organization we learned that it was a front for insect beings that were using humans as hosts to breed more of their kind as they attempt to take over the world.
Why am I writing about some game I played over a decade ago? Well I pulled out the old (published in 1990) module and noticed something on the front cover that I hadn't really paid attention to before.
The sign outside the building where the Universal Brotherhood has set up an office has a woman sitting on a rock with a message superimposed over the image. "Unleash your inner abilities. Join the Universal Brotherhood to build a better tomorrow.". And she's sitting at the base of a volcano.
I don't think it's a mistake that the artist used a volcano. A volcano is also used on the cover of L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics books.

If I'd masterminded this crime I'd have definitely found a better place to hide out than the Philippines.

2:36AM - The Belmont Stakes
Since I didn't go to the track for the Kentucky Derby, or the Preakness Stakes, I made it a point to get out there for the Belmont Stakes. My mom gave me fifteen dollars to play Union Rags across the board and won thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents on her wager. My pick, Street Life, came in fourth just outside the money.
I was okay with that since I hit a pick three betting on the second, third, and fourth races there at Golden Gate Fields. For a two dollar wager, spread out across a thirty-six dollar ticket, I got paid twelve-hundred and twelve dollars.

5:22AM - No Cristo Aqui
The mission in Santa Cruz was vandalized over the weekend. I'm glad I got a chance to go visit before this happened. I guess I never added an entry about it, but it's where I got a couple of prayer cards. The kind with a little medallion in them. I gave both of those away when I was in Chicago.
They want to charge the vandals with a hate crime. Ummm...what do you call genocide, and forced assimilation?
This reminds me of the "black bloc" tactics that were used during the May Day, and Occupy protests. I understand the anger, and lashing out at the perceived oppressive establishments, but I don't condone it.
I'm pretty sure there isn't a patron saint for breaking shit.

9:02AM - Ouch
This is the road I usually take driving into work. I don't use it on my way home anymore, but know pretty much where these two people got hit.
They used the video to track the driver down. Found him in a hotel in Oakland and busted him with heroin, and felony possession of ammunition.
Oh, and the hit-and-run and probation violation as well.

7:27AM - Whip-it Good
My step-father's son died inhaling nitrous oxide. I think that was in the 70's.
When I worked at the motel a small group of bikers had a tank in their room, and told me to "knock myself out" if I wanted to try some while they were out.
I was concerned when my brother and his friend from work started getting into doing whip-its. Until he watched his friend turn blue one day. Scared him out of doing them anymore.

11:03AM - My kind of town II
I went back out to Chicago last weekend. I wanted to hang out with my god-daughter because she's just putting the finishing touches on her divorce from the guy she married last time I was out there. I've also been wanting to see them dye the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day, and meet some other people I've become friends with on the internet.
cmerun12 was kind enough to pick me up at the airport, and give me a ride down to where Sam lives. She's even more charming in person than I'd expected. I'm grateful she didn't throw me out of the car because I couldn't figure out where I was going.
I stayed in downtown the following night to make it easier to meet up with some other friends at the parade the next day. Mr. Prince is an ex-$cientologist that used to work for L.Ron Hubbard, or as Jesse likes to call him "dead elron". He, and another friend from FB were full of insight about the cult.
Cindy informed me that the Ghengis Khan exhibit that I'd seen in San Jose was at the Field Museum, and I met up with her and her husband the day after the parade to go see it with them. This place is fascinating, and I'm sure we could've spent all day there. It was even more enjoyable with smart friends who could pick out the errors in the museum's information cards, as well as find the most interesting stuff inside.
The Ghost and the Darkness
I couldn't have asked for more gracious hosts as they helped me get back to Sam's.
We took the kids to the Brookfield Zoo the next day. I have mixed feelings about zoos, but thought the wolves were spectacular.
I really needed to see my god-daughter, Samantha, because she seemed distressed the last couple of times I talked to her. Her new boyfriend is funny, a southern California transplant, and will help her get through this part of her life. I'm sure of this.
My only regret about the trip is that I didn't contact chilimuffin, or gollumgollum. I'd make excuses, but would rather just promise that Madison is on the list for the next time I'm out there. And it won't take three+ years to return.

9:13AM - Auditor Training
I would like to send my Sr. QA specialist to a Lead auditor training in April. It is necessary for us to get someone trained and certified internally because of requirements put on by the CQC (Chinese Quality Certification) agency. This agency gives us the certification that allows us to sell product in Asia. On the last audit they found a deficiency in our internal audit program which I am now trying to address through this training.
The program cost is _____ and takes place in San Francisco so travel cost will be minimal.
Yeah. I'm gonna be training in April to do internal audits for this place. Still have mixed feelings about it. It should be "different".
